Nepal ahead of Test countries in T20 rankings

Nepal has improved the International Cricket Council’s (ICC) T20 rankings by overtaking Test team Ireland. In a new update released by the ICC on Sunday, Nepal has moved up one place to 12th place.

Nepal has 3,556 points and 187 ratings points from 19 matches. Ireland slipped to 13th spot after a clean sweep in the three-match T20I series against South Africa on Sunday. 13th-ranked Ireland are behind Nepal despite having 178 rating points from 21 matches. Ireland lost to South Africa by 33 runs in the first T20I, 42 runs in the second match and 49 runs in the third match.

Nepal is ahead of Associates in T20 rankings. Before Nepal, Zimbabwe is ranked 11th and Bangladesh at 10th. England tops the list, followed by India, New Zealand and Pakistan. Australia is fifth, South Africa sixth, Afghanistan seventh, West Indies eighth and Sri Lanka ninth. In T20 rankings, Nepal is followed by Scotland 14th, UAE 15th, Papua New Guinea 16th and Netherlands 17th. Serbia is at the bottom with 82nd place.

Nepal is still ranked 16th in ODIs. Nepal last won the title in April by playing a tri-series at home with the Netherlands and Malaysia. Despite not playing any T20I game in the last four months, the defeat to Ireland has led to an improvement in Nepal. Nepal’s T20 ranking is 11th. For some time in 2019, Nepal was ranked 11th in the T20I rankings.
