Hidilyn Diaz of the Philippines has won her first Olympic gold for her country. Diaz won gold in the women’s 55kg weight class at the Tokyo Olympics 2020 in Japan on Monday.
She achieved historic achievement by participating in the Olympics for the fourth time. 30 years old Diaz won gold by lifting a total of 224 weights. This is also a record in the Olympics.
She beat the opposition in the final lift in a very competitive game with the three Liao Qiyun. After the historic success, she covered her face with her hands and could not hold back the tears. Then she hugged her instructor.
Diaz lifted 127 kg in clean and jerk. Which was only 1 kg more than China’s Liao. She also set an Olympic record in Clajian and Jerk. China’s Liao won silver by lifting a total of 223 kg. Zulfia Chinsanlo of Kazakhstan won bronze by lifting 213 kg.
Chinsanlo won gold at the 2012 London Olympics but lost his medal in 2016 after failing doping.
