Gaurika Singh set national record in the 100m freestyle long course at Tokyo Olympics

Nepali swimmer Gaurika Singh sets national record in 100m freestyle at Tokyo Olympics.

While setting a national record in the 50 meter long swimming pool, Gaurika swam in 1 minute 00.11 seconds.

Earlier, Gaurika had set a national record in the long course by clocking a time of 1: 00.62 at the 2019 World Championships in South Korea. The same record was improved by Gaurika on Wednesday.

Gaurika, who swam in the first hit of the 100 meter freestyle on Wednesday, became the third of four athletes. Nigeria topped the list, followed by Montenegro. Gaurika was only able to overtake the Guam player.

A total of 51 players competed in this competition. In which Gaurika came in 50th place. The top 16 players reached the semifinals.

Gaurika also holds the national record for the 100m freestyle short course (25m swimming pool). She set the national record by crossing the prescribed distance in 58.13 seconds on the 13th.

Alexander Gadigad Shah, another swimmer at the Tokyo Olympics, set a national record on Tuesday.

Competing in the first hits of the 100 meter freestyle, he set a national record by swimming the required distance in 53.41 seconds. But he could not reach the second stage.

Similarly, Athletics player Saraswati Chaudhary will compete in the women’s 100 meter race on Friday.

Earlier, judo player Sonia Bhatt lost to Irina Dolgova of Russia in the first round.

On Saturday, another Nepali athlete Kalpana Pariyar competed in the women’s 10m air selection stage.
Although she set a national record, she was not selected in the final round.

Kalpana set a national record by scoring 616.8 in the selection phase. Earlier, Kalpana had set a national record of 614.5 in the 13th South Asian Games.
