It has been found that the top officials of 15 banks including Nepal Rashtriya Bank have received phone calls and emails from unknown numbers warning to hack the system and steal money.
The hacker sent an email to NRB spokesperson Dev Kumar Dhakal on Wednesday stating that the systems of 15 banks, including NRB, would be hacked. The same letter has also been sent to the emails of NRB Joint Spokesperson Narayan Pokhrel and Nabil Bank Chief Executive Officer Anil Keshari Shah.
Spokesperson Dhakal was threatened by the hackers on Thursday morning to hack the systems of Nepal and Nabil Bank including Rashtra Bank. “The systems of Nepal Bank and Nabil Bank including Rashtra Bank are being hacked,” said the person on the phone “We have been aware of this since yesterday.” We urge all banks to check their systems and take measures to minimize potential risks, ”said spokesperson Dhakal.
The hackers sent emails to NRB spokesperson Dev Kumar Dhakal, co-spokesperson Narayan Pokhrel and Nabil Bank chief executive officer Anil Keshari Shah as a warning to hack the banks.
The concerned banks have stated that they are on alert after receiving the information from the National Bank and there was no disturbance till Thursday morning.
The hackers sent letters to Nepal Rashtriya Bank, Kumari Bank, Nepal Bank, Nabil Bank, Rastriya Banijya Bank, Machhapuchhre Bank, NMB Bank, NIC Asia Bank, Bank of Kathmandu, Citizens International Bank, Sanima Bank, Everest Bank, Nepal Investment Bank and Himalayan Bank.
The letter also warned to not to take the letter lightly.
